When to Book Christmas Photos in Barcelona in 2026

Short answer: if you are wondering when to book Christmas photos in Barcelona, write to me in October or November. High season runs from mid-November to 20 December, and weekends go first. This year there is no long weekend in December: the 6th falls on a Sunday and the 8th on a Tuesday, so between 7 November and 20 December only seven weekends are left. If the photos are going to be printed or used on a card, subtract the two to three weeks of editing and book before 1 December.
My studio is on Ronda de la Universitat 33, next to Plaça Catalunya, so most families I photograph in December walk over from the Eixample or come one metro stop from Gràcia. Every year the same message lands in my inbox in the second week of December: "Is there anything left?" In 2026 it will sting earlier than usual, because the calendar has quietly taken a long weekend away from everybody.

Why this year fills up earlier than usual
If you want to pick the day and the time slot yourself, write in October or November. High season runs from mid-November to 20 December, and inside that window Saturdays and Sundays fill before anything else. There is almost always a gap left somewhere in December. You just do not get to choose it: you take what is there.
What changes in 2026 is the calendar itself. The 6th of December falls on a Sunday and the 8th on a Tuesday. In other words, there is no long weekend.
Those three or four days in a row that used to soak up half the season simply do not exist this year. All of that demand moves onto the November weekends and the first two weekends of December.
There is a second reason the diary closes early, and it is harder to see from the outside. Christmas does not start in December for me. The set is designed over the summer, the lighting tests happen in September, the build itself goes up in November, and the first families write before the tree is even standing.
"This is my third year running Christmas sessions in my studio, and honestly it is a long process. It takes up half my year." — Tami (Wonderstory)
The studio sits next to Plaça Catalunya, and in November the Saturday afternoon slots are usually spoken for before the month has even started. So the rule for when to book Christmas photos in 2026 fits into two sentences. If you are reading this in October, you are fine and you still choose your slot. If it is already November, lock the date in this week. Before you decide, have a look at how the Christmas studio sessions in Barcelona actually work.
Which weekends are genuinely left on the 2026 calendar?
Families do not count weeks. They count weekends. So let us count them properly, one by one:
- November: 7-8, 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29.
- December, before Christmas: 5-6, 12-13 and 19-20.
Seven. That is everything there is between 7 November and 20 December. Written down like that, it stops being a vague feeling of running late and becomes a number you can hold in one hand.
The 8th of December is a Tuesday: a single bank holiday stranded midweek. It works if you can shuffle a working day, but it does not drag a long weekend behind it and it takes no pressure off Saturdays. The 25th is a Friday, with Sant Esteve on Saturday the 26th, so the Catalan holiday disappears inside the weekend it belongs to. The practical result: 19-20 December is the last wide window before Christmas.
The usual fallback does not work either: "we will do it after the holidays, it still counts". Reyes falls on Wednesday 6 January 2027, and after that date Christmas photos are not reaching anybody's card.
As for the order things fill up in, it never changes. Saturday mornings go first, because that is when families with small children come. Then the last slots of the afternoon on November weekends, which is the light everybody wants.
And what about weekday evenings?
When the weekend is gone, midweek still has room. It is the slot almost nobody looks at first, and in a year with no long weekend it is the one that gives you the most freedom.
Geography helps here too. The studio is a step from Plaça Catalunya, so families from the Eixample and Gràcia walk over or come one metro stop, without getting the car out at seven in the evening. From the wider metropolitan area, a Tuesday at 18:30 means less traffic and somewhere to park. A Saturday at 11:00 means neither.

October, November or already December?
Each month gives you a different kind of session. Not better or worse: it is about how much choice you have, and what the photos are for.
Book in October if...
- You want to choose the weekend and the time slot yourself, rather than take whatever is left over.
- The photos will end up printed, in an album or on a paper card. Delivery is two to three weeks, edited and waiting in your own online gallery, and you count that back from the day you actually need them.
- You are coming with a baby and want room to move the date. A bad night, a vaccination or a slight temperature changes the plan, and in October moving a booking is easy.
Book in November if...
- Midweek or a late-afternoon slot works for you, and you are not tied to a Saturday morning.
- There are two to four of you, and getting everybody in one place does not require a family summit.
- The photos are for the digital card, the phone and the WhatsApp group, not for the printers.
In November you still choose. In December you only accept.
Book in December only if...
- You will take whatever date is free, without negotiating it or changing it afterwards.
- The photos are going out digitally. With a two to three week delivery, a session on 12 December lands just in time and one on the 19th lands after Christmas Eve.
- Or you would rather move the whole thing to January and do it calmly, without the December race.
If you are tight on time, the short option exists. Have a look at what you actually walk away with from a mini session before writing it off for being brief.
Weekend or weekday?
Here the deciding factor is not availability. It is who is coming with you. Weekends work for families with school-age children, for groups of more than four, and for three generations when the grandparents travel in from outside Barcelona. It is the only day everybody is free without asking permission from anyone.
Midweek works for couples, for babies who behave better mid-morning, and for anyone who can carve two hours out of a working day. In 2026 this matters more than in other years, precisely because without a long weekend the demand does not spread across four days in a row. It concentrates into those seven weekends.
On budget, so you can place it: the Christmas packages start at 175 € and sessions run from 30 to 90 minutes, with the one-hour session being the most booked. What each package includes is on the sessions page.
One advantage of booking early shows up on no calendar. Before the day of the session I send you personal styling advice, so booking with room to spare also means having real time to organise everybody's clothes, down to whether those matching jumpers actually work together on camera. If you want to get ahead, here is what to wear for a Christmas photo session.

And if it is already December and you have booked nothing?
Write anyway. That is the first step, and plenty of people skip it because they assume there is nothing left. Gaps open from last-minute changes, mostly with families who have small children, and the person who wrote earlier is the one who hears about it first.
After that, in order. Accept a weekday or an unusual slot, like mid-morning on a Tuesday or the last hour of a Thursday. Accept that the photos will be digital rather than printed, because from 1 December the delivery time no longer leaves room for the printers. And if what you need is the card ready that same afternoon, the other route is a Christmas mini session at YOULO, where the images reach your inbox the same day.
Beyond that, I will be honest with you: sometimes the diary opens in a way nobody can plan for.
As Mónica Cabrera puts it in her Google review:
"I messaged her on a Wednesday at 37 weeks pregnant and we did the session that same Saturday. She never made me feel bad about being so far along in the pregnancy, and she adapted the Christmas session so it became a Christmas, maternity and family shoot with our little dog."
That is a real case. But the exception is not a plan. In a December with no long weekend there are fewer gaps to move around, because the days of slack that used to let me reshuffle one family without touching the rest of the diary are not there this year.

Where do I start if I want the date settled this week?
In one line: when to book Christmas photos in Barcelona in 2026 comes down to October and November, seven available weekends, and 1 December as the cut-off if you want them in print on time. Decide first what the photos are for, then the month, and only at the very end the hour.
"Of course I finish exhausted. It is a joy to watch my regular little clients grow up and to meet new families." — Tami (Wonderstory)
That is the part that makes me build the set again every year. This season's is called "Casa Chic Silencioso": a tree dressed in glass, in the studio on Ronda de la Universitat 33, next to Plaça Catalunya and a short walk from the Eixample. If you already know that this year is the year, check the free dates for the Christmas sessions and take the one that suits everybody.
