The Baby Show | Five Funny Things That Happen at Newborn Photo Sessions

Hi, moms-to-be! As a baby photographer, I have seen it all at newborn shoots. Spit-up, diaper explosions, nothing surprises me any more. But I want to share a few situations that can happen during a newborn photo session and make you want to hide under the sofa and never come out.
So, without further ado, here are the five situations that can go wrong during your newborn photo session. In my experience shooting newborns in Barcelona, every session brings something nobody planned for.
The “Poopocalypse”
Ah yes, the infamous Poopocalypse. Your little angel decides that right now is the perfect time to poop. And not a normal poop. No, this one is epic.
Think Mount Vesuvius, only instead of lava it is poop. And it goes everywhere. On the blankets, on the props, on me. It is a mess. All you can do is watch in horror while I clean it up and keep smiling.
The “I’m not sleeping” baby
You have heard all the tricks. White noise machine, swaddle, pacifier. But your baby is simply not going to sleep. Wide awake, staring at you with those big eyes.
Meanwhile I am doing everything I can to settle him down, so I can take those quiet shots of a sleeping baby. It is a battle of wills, and the baby is winning.

The “Sudden meltdown”
Everything is going well. Your baby is sleeping peacefully and I am photographing all the small details: the fingers, the eyelashes, the fold on the neck. Then, out of nowhere, your baby wakes up and starts to cry. And I mean cry. Like someone flipped a switch: angel to demon in a few seconds. I try to calm him down, nothing works. A full meltdown, and you are left wondering what just happened.
The accidental “Naked baby”
Naked baby photos are worth it. But they come with their own risk. Your baby decides that right now is the perfect time to pee. And not a little bit of pee. No, this is a fire hose, except instead of water it is pee. And just like the Poopocalypse, it goes everywhere. Now you wait for it to dry.
The “Jealous big brother” drama
You want your older child in the shoot because, let us be honest, sibling photos are hard to resist. But your older child does not agree. He feels jealous and left out, and he is not shy about showing it. He cries, he sulks, he refuses to cooperate. Meanwhile I am trying to get that perfect sibling photo and keep the peace at the same time. It is a delicate balance and it can feel like a circus. If you liked the baby session, take a look at our family Christmas shoots too.

But don’t worry! None of this is really terrible. It is all part of your own story. As a family photographer, I will take character over perfection any day.
If you are looking for an original gift for a newborn, a photo shoot is the one people get emotional about.
So do not stress about what could go wrong during your newborn photo session. Relax and enjoy it, and let me tell your story the way it deserves. When you see the final photos, you will not even remember the “terrible” parts. So let us get started.
